To make a purchase
Initial inquiry
This is not a big outfit here so we try to still keep things personal.
Please contact us by e-mail so we can start an order. In your initial communication, we ask you to list which design or designs you are inspired by, which type of drawings you might like to purchase, and where you are in the planning process. Let us know how you would prefer to be contacted; e-mail or telephone, and we will start working to get back with you and meet your needs.
Other helpful information might be any ideas you have regarding foundation type, or any minor modifications you might be considering. We will communicate with you for any final details before placing your order. The designs are base plans and we are not above making some minor customization if reasonable. Ultimately you will need to know how many prints you need or if you want reproducible prints.
Things to consider;
Bond or vellum.
Bond is, well, white paper. With the development of quality large format printers and copiers the blueprint has gone the way of the t-square and drafting board. Prints on bond are black ink on white paper, are durable and easy to read. If no modifications are necessary bond is a great way to go.
Vellum, or reproducible prints, are made from a very high quality translucent paper. This paper is used for making “blue prints”. A reason you might choose to purchase vellums is to make revisions for regional conditions. Vellum can be altered with an electric eraser. You may reproduce vellums as many times as you need but only for the project for which you have purchased a license for. Prints are sold with the intent of building the house just once.
The number of sets you need will be determined by how many you give out, and how many you can get back. The building department will most often keep one set and require one record set with their comments to be kept on the job site. The bank might keep one set, you will need a set, and your builder will need several sets for the various subcontractors. Some builders can build a house with 5 sets of prints, others need more.
Plan ahead. The planning and review process and eventual construction process will most always take longer than anticipated. Also check with us on print availability. Not all designs are ready to ship as some my still be in final development.
Pricing is pretty simple. Whether the house is 1200 square feet or 2400 square feet pretty much the same amount of work goes into producing the basic drawing set so prices are fairly consistent. Some designs are more elaborate and require more detail which will be reflected in the cost of the drawing package. Each Plan will have pricing info on its detail page.
